Nothing quite says welcome to motherhood like purchasing butt cream for the first time. During the first year of my son’s life we went through various lotions and potions in an attempt to manage everything from eczema, to acid bum, and even one very nasty yeast infection. In an attempt to save you (and maybe your wallet) from that same fate I’ve listed two of my absolute favorites.
Not all diaper rashes are created equal, but for those everyday diapers that may leave baby’s bum feeling irritated, I love Aquaphor. I was actually gifted my first tub by a friend and liked it so much I have stayed with this brand. It is a petroleum based cream that works especially well on dry eczema patches and for diaper rash as a barrier cream. Since becoming a mom I wash my hands obsessively at home and this works wonders for my dry knuckles. I buy this tub size and it lasts forever.

For The Really Stubborn Diaper Rash
At my home we call it the dreaded acid bum. It’s that awful rash that just shows up out of nowhere like your baby’s bum has been dipped in acid (read all my best tips for managing it here). This is usually when I bust out the big guns. Triple Paste is by far my favorite zinc cream. It’s much thicker and more effective than any other over the counter cream I’ve tried. This is a bit more expensive but SO worth it. We keep a small bottle on hand for the bad rashes, and use Aquaphor everything else.

What Other Mom’s Recommend
Along with to Aquaphor and Triple paste, I have seen Calmoseptine recommended time and time again by fellow mamas. While I have never tried it I have heard nothing but good reviews.
