Beginner Bedtime Books For Babies

Some of my husband’s most prominent childhood memories are of his mom reading to him. When my son was born, we decided to make reading a priority as well. Some nights are tougher than others, but with perseverance we have managed to make a bedtime story a part of his night time routine. Being a mom, watching my husband read to my son at bedtime is one of the most rewarding parts of my day.

Starting Small With Short Bedtime Books

To help simplify baby’s bedtime routine, start with something small (but sturdy!). I’ve put together a list of some of my absolute favorite beginner bedtime books for young babies. These books are short and sweet, perfect for those small babies with short attention spans! (Added bonus, all of these are $8 or under!)

 Babies Love Lift-a-Flap Books

Babies Love Lift-a-Flap Books

These are at the top of my list because they have been my go-since day one. I love these so much I have four . They are awesome for two reasons:

  1. They are so STURDY. These are one of the thicker board books I’ve come across which is perfect for tiny new fingers.
  2. The lift-a-flaps make it fun and interactive for curious new readers.
Peekaboo! Flap Books

Bedtime Peekaboo!:

If you can’t tell, I love flap books for young babies. Full of shapes and textures, these books let them explore. The soft piggy page is the most popular at our house!

The Sandra Boynton Books

Moo, Baa, La La La!:

These books are filled super silly rhymes that roll off the tongue, and let me tell you the price is right. She has a full collection of books, one of my favorite being Moo, Baa, La La La!.

These adorable little books have seen a lot of love at my house. They are full of contrasting colors and are super simple. Not only are they a good starter book for bedtime routine, but they are small and compact. Convenient for throwing in the diaper bag to keep baby entertained.

Goodnight Moon

Goodnight Moon:

Shout out to those mamas who were read this as a child! Of course I couldn’t finish off this list without including such a classic. I smile every time I read this. I can’t help but think of how many parents just like me have sat with a child on their lap reading this bedtime story.

Let me know in the comments, what were your favorite short and sweet reads for those early baby days?

Wishing you all the best!
